BriNgiNg WhitEthorN TEa to Our SouNd Baths

As someone originally from Poland who has lived in Ireland for twenty years, I have spent a long time walking this beautiful land. In shamanic practice, we believe that the best healing comes from the earth we walk on.

We often look to far countries for sacred plants, but we have amazing indigenous medicines that surround us here in Ireland. You see the Whitethorn tree everywhere in the countryside.

I am very happy to bring Whitethorn tea into our sound baths now. Sharing this tea before we start is a powerful way to connect with the land and focus on the healing, strengthening, and expansion of the heart.

The Open Heart and the Sharp Thorns

In the ancient Irish Ogham alphabet, the Whitethorn is called Huath, which connects to the word "Fear." But its scientific name comes from an old Greek word for "Strength." I love this combination. It shows we can use the strong spirit of the tree to move past our fears and bring gentleness back into our lives.

The Whitethorn shows us a great lesson about how to protect our heart space. It has beautiful, soft white flowers, but it also has very sharp thorns. Long ago, farmers used these thorny bushes as hedges to contain livestock and protect boundaries.

This teaches us that we can have a soft heart, but we still need strong boundaries to protect our energy. The thorns protect the beautiful blossoms, showing us how to keep our hearts safe while they expand.

The Lore of the Fairy Trees

Our ancient traditions say that the medicine we need is always right outside our back door. In Irish folklore, people always treat the Whitethorn with big respect. It is known as a fairy tree that works with the Sídhe (the fairy folk).

A lone Whitethorn tree standing in a field is a very special place where the physical world and the spirit world meet. Folklore says the fairies rest under its protection.

When we drink this tea before our sound bath, we connect with that ancient energy. It helps us relax and melt away the heavy armor, anxiety, or stress we carry in our chest cavity. When the sound healing begins, the vibrations of the bowls and the spirit of the tree work together. It helps to soften old anger or unprocessed grief, making space for the healing, strengthening, and expansion of the heart, allowing love to flow again.

Note: Whitethorn tea is an indigenous herbal drink for spiritual and wellness support. It is not a replacement for medical advice or treatment. Please note that Whitethorn can make heart medications or blood pressure pharmaceutical drugs stronger, so it should not be taken if you are on those medications.
